Roulette is another popular game that is played at land casinos and also online. The game is named after a French “little wheel”. The first roulette was devised in the early 18th century. In the United States, roulette made its way up the Mississippi River to New Orleans, and became a huge hit that provided players with a chance to wager. In the 1970’s many casinos’ offer roulette, and by 2008 several hundred casino’s offered the hot game. Roulette is certainly a game of chance, but players get the chance to select their chance.

Basic Rules
When you are playing roulette, you have several different options. You can place an inside bet by the selecting the exact number of the pocket the ball will land in, or a small range of pockets based on their proximity. The roulette table will impose a minimum and a maximum bet, and players can wager on inside and outside bets for each spin. You can combine your inside and outside bets to meet the minimum bet. When you get ready to play the game, you will need to buy the special roulette chips. Each player that is at the table gets a different color chip, to distinguish each others. The dealer is required to keep the wheel moving at all times. They will then spin the ball in the opposite direction of the wheel. This causes the ball to jump and spin before landing on a number. The dealer will then mark the winning number with a marker. You are not allowed to make your next bet until the dealer removes the marker from the previous winning number. You ARE allowed to place bets after the dealer has spun, the dealer will tell you when the stop.

How to Play
The numbers on the roulette board are arranged in 12 rows of three numbers making three vertical columns. The numbers “0” and “00” are at the top of the columns. There are several bets you can make. First, an inside bet is a straight number or a straddle the line number between a combination of numbers. Here are a few inside bets that are available when playing Roulette: Straight up, Split bets, Street bets or Line Bets, Corner or Quad Bets, Basket bet and double street bet. Outside bets are any of the bets made in the boxes surrounding the numbers. A few outside bets you can wager on: red black odd and even, the dozens bet (made on the 12 consecutive numbers) and column bets.

Payouts and Odds
Many people feel the game of Roulette favors the house, but there really is no great way of knowing. Typically, the house averages around a 5% advantage of any one player. If you are lucky and pick the correct numbers, you can make bank when playing Roulette. When you are playing at a table that is full, it slows down the pace of the game, which lowers the advantage the house has on the players. Here is a listing of some of the bets and their payouts.

There are single zero rules, Atlantic City rules and the old European rules to the game. All of these versions have different variations of the rules.
